Rodrigue '2-pac' Cocks 33 (got his name from the 2-pac tattoos on his shoulder and chest), of the Orleans District of french St Martin was the badboy of the area. He has been a nuisance to the society for many years. In August 2009 to October 2012 he was a convict St Maarten Pointe Blanche prison on Rape charges. From November 2003 to September 2005 he also served time at the Baemahault Prison, in Guadeloupe for Aggravated assault and Robbery. The Community rejoiced upon his death in St Martin. "It is like a great burden has been lifted up from our shoulders," One elderly lady from the Orleans community said. However the Law do not look kindly upon vigilante killings. 2-pac was shot 3 times in his chest and a single bullet in the back of his head. The police had made two arrests for the killings. Denis Cocks 28 of St Martin, and Dominican Cuthbert Roberts who is 31 years old.

Denis Cocks had already spent 17 months on remand in the Basseterre prison awaiting trial while Cuthbert Roberts had spent 15 months. Both of the defendants denied involvement in the murder of 2-pac.
Till on Thursday 9th march in at the Basseterre court, Cuthbert Roberts plead with tears in his eyes, to his friend Denis Cocks, asking him , "please , tell them it was you who killed your cousin. Tell them it was you who was the shooter, you had the gun." He cried, like a baby, while Denis Cocks kept a straight calm face.
On the stand , Denis Cocks said that he is a right hander, so he could not have held the gun to shoot his cousin and ride the bike at the same time. Claiming that it was a driveby, but it was not.
On friday 10th March the jury decided to bring in the verdict.
Denis Cocks was to serve 20 years prison sentence for the murder of his cousin Rodrigue '2-pac' Cocks and Cuthbert Roberts was to serve 6 to 8 years inprisonment. Cuthbert Roberts lawyer brought to the attention of the court the incredible contrast of guilt, from 20 years to 6 years, which brings to light more of the shadow of the doubt that Cuthbert Roberts was innocent, therefore the judge in the matter decided to release Cuthbert Roberts as a freeman. Upon pleading leniency for Denis Cocks by his lawyer, the judge decided to bring his sentence to 18 years.

ReplyDeleteFRENCH QUARTER:--- French St. Martin recorded another murder Sunday night when someone shot a well known French Quarter man known as 2-Pac. The victim has been identified by persons at the scene as Rodrigue Bernard Cocks aka 2-Pac (30 years). Bystanders said when the SMUR reached the scene they did their best to revive the victim but he did not survive.
According to persons on the scene, at least four gunshots were fired. It is not clear at this time how many bullets hit Cocks but his body was seen on the sidewalk in front of Arnel Center wrapped in a body bag as undertakers took him away.
Cocks was no stranger to the Gendarmerie he was arrested several times for various crimes. Just last week, Cocks was arrested for attacking a taxi driver with a firearm. Cocks was with another man when he attacked the taxi driver in the vicinity of the Oyster Pond Border. Cocks spent one night in garde à vue and was released the next day pending further investigation.
Relatives and several bystanders were on the scene screaming as the victim's body was being removed from the scene where he was shot to death. Several gendarmes were on the scene and they blocked off the road as they processed the crime scene to search for the bullets that hit Cocks and the others that were fired. At the scene of the crime, Gendarmes were having a hard time getting information from bystanders as no one was willing to speak with them.
SMN News learned that Cocks (2-Pac) was shot by two persons riding a scooter. The source said one of the bullets hit Cocks at the back of his head and killed him almost instantly. At the time of the shooting 2-Pac was walking to his aunt's house.
