canoe (the Carib Indians make out of hollowed out trees). Attached to the canoe was a modified shot gun (for speed) with a harpoon.
The fishermen fired the harpoon into the body of the whale, using the power of the shot gun. It made a booming noise, which got the attention of the tourists who realized the fishermen were killing the whale. They quickly attached a buoy to the whale to prevent it from sinking, as it would surely drown. This did not help. The whale was slaughtered in the presence of the tourists and was later taken to the market to be sold as food.
The tourists considered the whaling as outrageous and the tour operated has cancelled all of its whale watching tours. Despite calls for the Ban on whaling, Whaling is still legal in St Vincent.
