Courthouse Obeah

June 23rd, 2017|Pointe a Pitre, Guadeloupe
This morning the Staff of the Pointe a Pitre Judiciary Court was greeted by evidence of last night's ritual.

The mouths of three toads were padlocked shut. This is obviously the spell of Courtroom magic which causes severe stuttering and an inability to form coherent speech among witnesses, a ritual which is very common among the islands of the Caribbean.

Pastor Benedict Jno Baptiste says, 'in this magic spell, a Demon is called upon. This demon is the one responsible for sealing the mouths of the witnesses while they are on the stand."

Caribbean Judges are aware of the obstruction of justice and courtroom magic, this is why in 2000, a judge in St. Lucia to preserve the integrity of the court had a similar spell of this sort, (involving the sewn mouths of frogs) reversed before resuming the court session.

This evening, the three padlocked toads still lie at the entrance of the courthouse. Lawyers and Judges in Pointe a Pitre says, no one should be worried about these superstitions, as they are unreal.

"This is exactly the kind of people voodooh affects," says Pastor Benedict, "it is those who do not believe in it.

Pastor Benedict Jno Baptiste
It is like not believing a paedophile is a rapist, he wants you to not believe so he can prey on your children and you won't ever think that it is him."
