If a man have been charged for rape, Convicted and served his time, he has duly paid his debt to society, still he is branded a rapist. Many years later, if a woman gets raped in a dark alley one night. After being raped, she dials our 999 service, the police shows up at the crime scene. During that moment the branded rapist just coincidentally happens to stroll by that dark alley. He will be arrested, brought into the police station for physically abusive questioning. He might be detained for up to seventy-two hours , just in case the potentially traumatized victim is able to positively identify her rapist, or in case some evidence or other witness shows up.
It amazes me how selective Dominican's memory is, but I remember. I remember in 1995 how the United Workers Party under the leadership of Edison James, with an administration of Julius Timothy and Norris Prevost, eradicated the Dominica Freedom Party.
Ossie Walsh was the Achilles heel which brought the Dominica Freedom Party to its knees. He was deemed a rapist by the United Workers Party. He was stripped Naked on many platforms by the Edison James administration. He was shamed, humiliated, demoralized as a rapist. This caused him to humbly cup his naked cock and whatever was left of his balls in his hands as he exited out of the political arena with his head bowed down. Embarassed to walk the streets of Roseau, he dissappeared out of Dominica and out of Politics.
Years later, he returned to Dominica with a law degree, and he was furnished with the title of Registrar. Now Mr Walsh is contemplating going back into Politics. Which party should he represent? Should it be the United Workers Party? An administration which had previously publicly castrated him and brought him to shame? Or Should it be with the Labour Party? Well I am sure you can see the many ways the word ‘rapist’ could be attached to this government with an Affiliate as Mr Walsh. Is Mr Ossie Walsh ready to allow his past to hunt him again? Is any Party ready to accept the dirt which comes with this candidate? Mr Walsh is in a good place at the moment, he should remain there.

ReplyDeleteIt almost seemed like I am imagining this, so I called some people in Dominica to ask if they remember this rape story that UWP used to discredit Walsh. And they do remember it.
