Crime and Incest (with video)

By Christine Nice

On May 2nd, 2017 a high court judge in St. Johns, Antigua passed sentence of 18 years on a man who pleaded guilty to having sex with his daughter.  The sexual activity had been happening since the girl was between 9 to 14 years old.
The victim lived with her father and her stepmother at the time of the sexual misconduct.  It disturbed her so much that she confided in her stepmother who accused her of lying.  She then confided in her pastor at the church who told her , "what your father is doing is wrong but you should pray for him."
She then spoke about the incident to a friend at her school, who told her parents, which brought about a group of adults knowing of the sexual assault, and they decided to take action, which lead to the arrest of the father.

Familial Relationships
This happens a lot in our society, but it is usually not spoken of till a child is born out of this incestuous relationships.  The police hardly ever get involve in this familial affairs because the question of 'who will maintain the child while the father is imprisoned' always arises.  We all know of the case involving the woman in Trafalgar, Dominica who have children with her father and the man from Portsmouth who had children with his daughter, and all of the children were born with scaly snake-like skin.

But today it is 2017

More women are coming out of the closet about having sexual relations with their sons.  2017 is the era of gay rights, familial and female led relationships. It also eliminates the problem of the son having a girlfriend which interferes with the dysfunctional sexual relationship the boy have with his mother. What does the law do when a woman have been having sex with her son since the boy had been a minor?  It is usually difficult to prove that sexual intercourse is occurring between mother and son, but how difficult could it be to prove when the woman is impregnated by her own son, as in the case of the particular woman from the once affluent family who resides at Morne Daniel in Dominica, who bore a son to her son?

Women Sexual Offenders and the Law

The hand of the law is severe against men who transgress sexually against female victims, as in the case with the Grenadian ex-Police office Lennard Benjamin who was sentenced to 28 years in prison for having sex with his 17 year old daughter. Sexual misconduct performed by women on the other hand are looked away by the law, especially if the victim is a male.

The Church and Crime
This also brings the question  of immunity to the law in the church. Are pastors immune to the law?  Do churches have some sort of diplomatic protection?  Acknowledging a crime and keeping it hidden is accessory to the fact and shares a measure of responsibility of that crime.

So why are pastors and priests not held accountable to what they know and keep hidden?  How many crimes disguised as sins are confided to priests and pastors during confession?  Any bystander who knowingly allows harm to occur is guilty, not necessarily equally guilty of the crime, but on a different count of the crime. Is the church really maintaining social order by allowing these crimes to continue under the veil of "you have confessed, your sins are now forgiven, go in peace to serve the Lord?"
