A Frame For Gravity

by Christine Nice

Patrickson 'Gravity' Moses
On profiling Patrickson 'Gravity' Moses, the crackhead who allegedly killed a fellow Crackhead, many folks who know him well say that he was more of a beggar than a hostile Character, "I do not believe Gravity did it," said one Civil servant, "He is a persistent beggar.

He will harass you till he gets a bread or a dollar, I really don't see him as that aggressive to the extent of killing another man.  As a matter of fact. Gravity is the last person the police is supposed to target as being responsible for this crime."

Arrested without a Charge
The Roseau police must have had sufficient evidence to make the arrest and if so, why haven't they charged Gravity with the crime?  Is it because that after beating a confession out of a man who has no one in his corner to cry police brutality, he still can't remember what he is supposed to confess to?  According to British Laws, the Police can arrest a suspect for up to 72 hours without a charge. If that Civilian is suspected of murder, then the police can apply for an extension to hold that suspect for up to 96 hours.  Have the police yet applied for their 96-hour extension?  Tomorrow, we hit the 96-hour mark.  The world is watching, as the Dominican Police refuse to enforce the Law while utilising Vagrants as scapegoats as the real criminals terrorise the population.  A vendor who sells close to the Roseau market said to Peepirit, "don't forget Gravity have no one for him."

Human Rights and Human Rights Attorneys
It is true that the lawyers on our island main priority is the accumulation of wealth, so none of them gives a rat's ass about the vagrants and the less fortunate who are not able to pay for legal defence.  Before we jump up and question the government about issues as these, we must remember this is not America.  We have no Miranda rights, and no lawyer will be assigned to us the less fortunate if we are unable to afford one.  We should not turn a blind eye from the rape of Gravity's human rights by the Roseau Police. The Criminal Investigative Department are fully aware that confessions from Mentally Handicapped individuals are not reliable to make an arrest.  They are fully aware that they have breached the safeguards of Gravity's human rights and his confession was induced, hostile and most likely violent.

To Build the Perfect Frame
For argument's sake, let us just suppose that in this hunt for Barabas we have found him, and Gravity is indeed the murderer of Parrows. Why is it taking the Police so long to bring the evidence towards the court and have Gravity; the alleged Killer Charged?  If he is only the witness to the murder, why haven't the Police arrested the other alleged murderer?  Is it because the real murderer has connections in high places?  There is no witness protection program in Dominica, alternatively, must witnesses be subjected to sleeping in a cell on a piece of cardboard without a pillow and shitting in a pail? Whatever it may be, the 96-hour countdown is on. The world is now witnessing how long it takes the Dominica Police Force to Build Gravity the Perfect Frame.
