It has been 25 days since a report have been made against the Antigua Labour Party Minister of Tourism for Sexually assaulting an 18 year old Syrian girl who was serving food at a restaurant setting, "and nothing is being done," Says Parliamentary Hopefull Joan Underwood of Saint Johns Rural North Constituency.
This lady who refuses to give the case against The Honorable Asot Michael a rest says, "The other members of Parliament , should say to him, 'boy , you making the rest of us look real bad, do the right thing, make a public speech and declare your resignation.' Ms Underwood went on to ask , if the ministers in the cabinet don't have daughters or grandchildren. She is asking, "What kind of Message is this government sending to the general public? Should the Antiguan youth be afraid to go out in public for fear of being Sexually accosted by dirty old men?"
Members of various communities of Antigua says that to prevent a negative stigma being attached to the victim, names are not mentioned, however they are also concealing the name of the pussy grabbing perpetrating Minister. The people have also labeled the Prime minister Gaston Browne as a coward.
Joan Underwood is calling out to the Women Against Rape association. She is asking them to get involve in the matter. A position which they have decided to not be entangled in but still a speech was made about sexual violation from the President of the Association. The President of Women Against Rape, Alexandrina Wong, said she is “reminding persons about the harmful effects of sexual assault, gender-based violence, and as long as matters are reported the law will take its course”.
