He said that because of the terrible ordeal at sea last week in the stormy weather, the MV Missover was unable to make it to Guadeloupe last week. His boat and crew were forced to return to Dominica but there was not much perishables on the boat.
"The problem is actually
a spring in the engine which broke," Captain Raymond said, "We have created a temporary modification but right now I am awaiting a mechanic to do the repairs today. If the mechanic comes, we will be able to travel to Dominica tomorrow as scheduled."
The Captain said that there was no fear of sinking in last weeks ordeal on the sea.
On the wharf presently is the Mv Missover and the Mv Maxano which sails directly to Portsmouth. The MV Sea Siren is docked too, however it's route to Dominica is to Roseau, then docks in Portsmouth to collect Cargo. The MV Sea Siren sits in the place of the MV Addie which is not docked at the moment. The Captain, Mr Ryan is currently in Antigua on a Basic One week Sea Farers Certification course which was recommended by Mr Ettienne of the ministry of Trade.
Mr Ettienne at the Ministry of Trade confirmed with Dominican Overseas News that the certification course which the Captain and Crew of the MV Addie is doing right now in Antigua is financed by the government of Dominica. This program is being done by sea farers throughout the Caribbean region he says, "in Dominica we have 31 enrolled in the program, 13 of which has already done the basic Certification level in Boat Management. The relevance of the program is to ensure that all Sea farers in Dominica are certified in Basic to Masters level in Boat Management. The Certification course being done in Antigua," Mr Ettienne says, "is the basic certification which includes Boat Engine Mechanics, First Aid and Boat Management."
